Job Description

Job Summary:
The Lower School teacher’s job involves instructing students in grades K-5, typically across a range of subjects like reading, math, science, and social studies. They create and implement lesson plans, assess student progress, communicate with parents, and foster a positive learning environment.

Reports to: Lower School Principal

Evaluation: Annual evaluation conducted by the Lower School Principal; periodic observation and feedback.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university

Certification: ACSI and/or state certification; Elementary Education (preferred).

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver engaging lessons, utilizing various teaching methods and strategies.
• Evaluate student learning through various methods, including observations, assignments, and tests.
• Regularly communicate with parents about student progress and collaborate with other educators
• Maintain a positive and organized classroom environment, ensuring student safety and well-being.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s curriculum, aligning instruction with state and district standards.
• Provide individualized support to students who are struggling or excelling academically and address behavioral issues as needed.
• Stay up to date on new teaching techniques and best practices through professional development opportunities.

Upper School English Teacher

Job Description

 

Job Summary:

The Upper School English Teacher will teach language arts and/or literature courses to Upper School students from beginner to advanced levels, advancing students’ knowledge of reading, writing, and analyzing literature, while growing in their overall academic, writing, reading, and speaking skills.

Reports to: Upper School Principal

Evaluation: Annual written evaluation conducted by the US Principal; periodic observation and feedback.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university

Certifications: ACSI and/or state certification; Secondary English Education (preferred).

Mission Alignment: Beyond degree and certification requirements, the English teacher will be a mature Christian with a solid understanding of and commitment to Christian education, a clear support of PVCA’s mission and vision, and a heart of service and humility towards coworkers, students, and families.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Effectively teach multiple levels of Upper School English courses, potentially from beginner level to Advanced Placement
· Prepare materials, write curriculum, and deliver lesson plans to meet the needs of individual students
· Encourage students to listen attentively, fully participate, and actively engage in the learning process
· Conduct research on teaching methods, materials, and activities appropriate for use in the classroom, staying current in developments of best professional practice for learning

 

Qualifications/Competencies:

· Strong command of the English language and literature
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

STAFF POSITIONS

Librarian

Librarian
Job Description

Job Summary:
The Townsend library is utilized as a collaborative workspace for grades PreK-12 PVCA students, staff, and faculty. Grades K-5 teachers can sign up, as needed, for co-teaching in the areas of direct library instruction on a specific topic, curriculum extension activities, research of curriculum topics, book shares, STEM-based activities that correlate to classroom experiences, or other agreed-upon class instruction. Middle School and High School classes would have similar co-teaching opportunities to learn about researching, how to navigate websites for research, and computer use for curriculum-related assignments. K-5 students have specified book check-out times as allocated by the librarian and agreed upon by the classroom teacher. Middle School and High School students check out books in their areas of interest or on specific topics.

Reports to: Principal

Evaluation: Annual written evaluation conducted by the Academic Principal

Education/Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; preference for library experience and/or training; willingness to pursue librarian qualifications.

Criteria: Beyond educational and professional requirements, the Librarian will be a mature Christian with a solid understanding of and commitment to Christian education, a clear support of PVCA’s mission and vision, and a heart of service and humility towards coworkers, students, and families.

Main Responsibilities: The Librarian will:

• Hold primary responsibility for the selection of books to be purchased and placed in the library. The librarian will assess the biblical worldview content of all materials and will seek to promote alignment with PVCA’s biblical worldview standard. Selected texts that do not align with PVCA’s vision and mission will be used to discuss and understand opposing worldviews.
• work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support the school-wide curriculum, choosing books that are specifically beneficial to units and lessons taught in the classrooms, and planning/scheduling library times with individual teachers.
• Be assigned a budget for purchasing resources and will spend within the assigned budget, with administrator approval, and with all selection criteria in mind.
• Read current literature in the field of library science and educational media. As needed, he/she will attend seminars, workshops, and college courses to stay abreast of current educational media, library science philosophies, and techniques.
• Maintain proper discipline in the library and media center to enhance student learning, and plan and maintain library space conducive to studying and library activities.
• Work with the administrative staff in planning and organizing library programs, library facility improvements, and library and media center acquisitions to meet the needs of staff and students.
• Supervise the upper school students using the library for study hall, peer tutoring, or research activities.
• Maintain a topical resource list in the library management system to reference curriculum-related topics.
• Assist students and staff in finding and checking out materials and equipment, and will be available to teach library research skills to students.
• Respond promptly to parent or student requests for help or information.
• Receive new media materials, enter data in the computer, print bar codes and spine labels through the library management system.
• Display new book collections, visiting authors’ books, monthly themed materials and seasonal decorations, and make motivational displays of new books and special interest books.
• Oversee and recommend policies for the use of the library media center.
• Prepare overdue notices for classrooms, individual students, teachers, or parents as needed, and collect overdue books, and the cost of replacing lost or damaged books.
• Oversee the library conference room availability.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the tables and study areas in the library.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration.
• Promote a school-wide reading culture through special programming and activities designed for students in the early childhood program, lower school, and upper school.

FULL-TIME STAFF POSITIONS

School Nurse

Job Description

Job Summary:
The PVCA school nurse is responsible for providing health care for students, including treating student injuries and illnesses and advising parents and staff on health issues. The school nurse will promote health-related practices and ensure compliance with national and local health policies for private schools. The school nurse will be available to address health issues in the Academy as needed and keep the administration informed of any pending medical problems needing to be addressed.

Reports to: Operations Director

Evaluation: Annual written evaluation conducted by the Operations Director; periodic observation and feedback.

Education: Degree in nursing from an accredited professional program.

Certifications: Hold a valid registered nurse or nurse practitioner license to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts.

Mission Alignment: Beyond degree and certification requirements, the Nurse will be a mature Christian with a solid understanding of and commitment to Christian education, a clear support of PVCA’s mission and vision, and a heart of service and humility towards coworkers, students, and families.

Key Responsibilities:
• Treat all students as individuals in a concerned and caring manner and provide basic healthcare in case of injury or acute illness.
• Work as a team member in conjunction with faculty and staff to promote a safe and healthy school environment.
• Arrange CPR training for faculty and staff, and record that staff and faculty are CPR certified.
• Develop and manage a school health/nutrition program.
• Provide written instructions on medical and health-related procedures that school personnel are required to implement.
• Provide first aid and emergency care on site, including accompanying students to the hospital in an emergency, if necessary.
• Ability to think quickly, deal with stressful situations, work under pressure, and handle multiple patients at one time.
• Perform vision and hearing screening per the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regulations.
• Evaluate students and recognize signs and symptoms of illness, including communicable diseases, and advise parents/guardians regarding follow-up protocol. Contact parents when a student becomes ill and needs to be sent home.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student visits to the nurse’s office.
• Administer prescription and non-prescription medication according to physician authorization and record in RenWeb any medication administered during school hours. Secure all prescribed medications in a locked cabinet.
• Assist in providing emergency care for accidents and sudden illness of students until parents assume responsibility.
• Assist personnel in completing an accident report on any student with an injury that requires, or may in the future require, further medical attention by a physician. Submit the report to the Human Resource Office.
• Inform faculty of any medical protocols in place for injured students, such as concussions.
• Maintain a cumulative health folder, including immunization records, for each student, reporting all data pertinent to the student’s health.
• Review immunization records for compliance with state laws and school policies.
• Ensure that parents submit an annual religious exemption form or letter if the student is not immunized.
• Update all student medical histories and records on RenWeb.
• Maintain good working knowledge of the Massachusetts State laws as they pertain to schools’ immunization requirements, tracking, and reporting regulations.
• Submit accurate and timely immunization, diabetes, and asthma reports as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Order and maintain all medical supplies as approved by the Operations Director.
• Coordinate medical needs and supplies for day and overnight field trips. Ensure well well-stocked field trip bag is inclusive of medicines for specific students, all medical and permission to treat forms, current list of students with allergies, and special health conditions of concern.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director regarding students who are participating in a school sport to confirm that updated Physical Exam Forms have been submitted.
• Maintain medical records of students with ongoing health problems and severe allergies; facilitate individual health and emergency plans as needed. Provide a list to the teachers of students who have severe allergies.
• Maintain regular school hours, be available to attend faculty meetings, when requested, and be available to work some summer hours (as needed) to cull through files and enter information on new enrollees.
